How to Inculcate Good Money Concept to Children

Inculcate good money concept and help children develop a good habit of expenditure and savings. This is a great lifelong asset and love from parents.

Children are like a blank sheet and their life experience is the writing that decides their happiness or misery. Being the closest person, parents play an important role to guide their children to understand many aspects of life. It is vital for parents to inculcate the true value of money and its correct use to their children. Inculcate good money concept to children should be started at their early ages. Guidance and monitoring throughout will help children to develop a good habit of spending and saving money.

Earn money is never easy.

Children should not be given the wrong impression that they can have money automatically whenever they simply ask. Parents have to introduce the reality that every penny comes from hardworking. Earn money is never easy. Parents are recommended to assign some work to their children such as house cleaning so that children can earn money instead of getting it free.

Understand children’s needs and their cost.

Parents have to find out what children need and the related prices. This helps in figuring out the precise amount of money that should be assigned to the children. It is better to give less money than more. Let the children give feedback when they find the assigned amount is not enough. Ask children why they need more money and offer adjustment when the reason is a justified one.

Make and submit an expenditure list.

It is important for parents to teach their children put every penny into good use instead of harming oneself. Parents can request their children to make an expenditure list that shows the activities, the items purchased, the brands involved, the quantity and amount. Request children to submit the expenditure list in a weekly basis for parent’s monitoring. Study the list carefully to smell any abnormality that needs further investigation and checking.

Be a good model to children.

Shopping with children is a good idea. Check children from buying show off items or insist them to think of the practical use and switch to a less expensive brand. If possible, always shop at the big sales. Parents have to be a model to demonstrate how to save money. Let children understand saving is a merit and a smart behavior.

Encourage savings.

Give children advice on how to spend wise so that they can learn to get the maximum with the limited amount of money, if possible, even have some savings. To encourage savings, buy children an interesting piggy bank. Make it a fun to feed the piggy bank and weight it in a monthly basis. Later on, introduce bank savings account and keep monitoring at a regular basis, particularly when children are at puberty.

Encourage generosity.

Parent should also encourage children to develop generosity in a meaningful way, such as donate some money to the charity organization to help the poor people. Through participation, children will understand the power of money in a more positive point of view.

Inculcate good money concept to children should start early, be consistent and persistent. Giving money in a proper way with appropriate teaching, monitoring and guidance, children learn to handle money properly and independently. This is a great asset that children will enjoy throughout their life. It is also one of the best ways for parents to show their love to children without spoiling them.
