How does baby learn?
When you look at your baby, it’s hard to know how much she really understands what is going on in the world around her. However, the fact is she takes in a lot more than you think, and she probably grasps a lot more than you expect. Bear in mind that your young baby is born with a wide range of skills to help her understand her surrounding, including:
Vision
Researchers have found that if a baby as young as nine minutes is shown a picture of a normal face.
Touch
Your baby is born with touch reflexes. For instance, if you put your finger firmly in the palm of her hand, she automatically tightens her fingers around it. Similarly, if you stroke her cheek gently with your finger, she will turn her head.

Balance
Her balance and coordination are weak and most arm and leg movements seem random. If she is held firmly in your hands then moved backwards suddenly for instance, her back arches and her arms reach urgently into the air.
Taste and Smell
Even at this age, babies can distinguish a wide range of tastes. They make distinctive facial expressions when they experience sweet, sour and bitter tastes, and these expressions match those of adults experiencing the same tastes.

Hearing
Your young baby enjoys soothing music and listening to you sings to her, no matter the quality of your musical voice. She also prefers your voice to any other.
Memory
Take a familiar toy and show your baby how to make a simple action with it. Repeat this action she is learned how to do it herself, and then remove the toy for a few days. When you put the toy back, you will probably find that she can repeat the action almost straightaway.

Voyage of Discovery
With all these inborn skills that help your baby understand the world around her, she is ready to begin discovering and exploring. Here are some other suggestions to develop your baby’s understanding during this phase of her life.
Play with Her
Your baby enjoys play more when you play with her and when you look as if you are enjoying yourself. Studies have shown that when a parent plays with their baby, she will be more interested in exploring her toys.

Have Fun with your Baby
She learns more when she is relaxed and having fun. Seeing you smile at her proudly, and hearing your encouraging comments boosts her enjoyment considerably and increases her understanding.
Do not shy Away From Repetition
The fact that your baby has played with a rattle or cuddly toy once does not mean that you need to give her a new one the next time; she will discover something new every time she plays with it.

True, your child wants to learn by herself. If necessary, you need to teach her with patience, as she has a natural desire to learn through her own methods of discovery. However, if you see her struggle to make a noise from the rattle for example, show her how to move her hand back and forth.
These are some suggestions on how to develop your baby’s understanding during this phase of her life.
