Fixing these sleep related mistakes we make will help us to get a better night’s sleep.
While trying to juggle everything in our life, we tend to not get the best sleep during the time when we really need the best sleep. We tend to make a lot of mistakes when it comes to sleep, but using the following tips will help you to get a better nights sleep and have a better day.
The first mistake we tend to make is we wait until the kids are in bed to do many of the activities we have to get done such as cleaning and laundry. This means that we are pushing our bed time back to a later time and not sleeping as long as we need. Most mother who do this have trouble winding down to go to bed, but we can learn from our children to fix this. Just as our children need routines to calm down and get ready for bed, we also need a routine. Spend about 30 minutes doing something that is relaxing such as a bath or reading quietly before going to bed to help you to wind down. Following this pattern every night will help change your body to be able to know that it is time to go to bed and sleep.
Don’t stay in your child’s room until they go to sleep. This will make your child dependent on you. Develop a relaxing routine, place your child in bed, say goodnight, and let them go to sleep on their own. Of course this isn’t going to go over well at first, but they will adapt and be able to go to sleep on their own.
Instead of taking your husband up on the offer of sleeping in on the weekend, find something else other then sleeping to take up the time such as a walk with a friend, relax while reading, or watching your favorite movie. Sleeping in breaks your sleeping regularly cycle and throw you off course.
Exercise regularly during the day and not before bed time. You want to stay active including your regular exercise routine during the day and not within two or three hours of bed time.
Napping while your child naps is okay when you are getting up every few hours through the night, but once they are sleep almost or all the way through the night you need to cut your nap out too. If you get tired then a 10 to 20 minute catnap at the same time everyday is your best way to go because you will wake up refreshed. If you sleep longer, then you will only be more tired when you wake up
You don’t put off taking care of any health problems you child might have or even just a checkup to make sure everything is okay, so why skip out on your own health especially the own that interrupt your sleep. Go to the doctor and get them checked out so you can have a good night sleep.
So if you are having troubles getting the rest you need to keep up with all those activities during the day, try out these tips to get your well needed sleep back on track.
