Help Your Kids Get Into Reading

Practical and simple ways on how to get your kids into reading.
My two kids, Jimboy and Gelvi, (6 & 5 year-old, respectively) like any other children of their age, love toys, computer games and TV programs than books. I certainly believe that reading can teach them draw things, explore the world, broaden their imagination and enables them to relate stories to others.
They are into reading but there are external factors that restraint them from doing so. If you have kids, and experiencing the same, here’s a list of WAYS TO GET THEM INTO READING.
- On paydays and special occasions (such as birthdays, Christmas and the likes) give them a good book as a gift (or additional gift).
- Read to them good story books at least twice or thrice a week, if you can’t make it daily. It will also strengthen emotional attachment between you and your kids. And you’ll love the emotions they gather as the story progresses.
- Allow them to read stories for you because they already can
- Tag them along in book shops. Visit book stores with them and eventually buy some books that catch their taste.
- Show them the importance of books and the proper way of caring books by involving them in covering books and repairing torn pages
- And lastly, create a mini-library at home. In this way, they’ll learn that reading should be a part of life and books are not just displays at home.
