Having the Sex Talk with Your Children

When and where do we do the sex talk with our children.

How do we ever know when it is time to have the forbidden talk about sex with our children?  For each family I’m sure it is different.  I find that so many people never have this talk and many regret it after their suddenly grandparents.  I hope I can survive raising my two boys.

Back to the question at hand though, I have found that I only answer what is asked unless the right opportunity pops up.   We have talked very openly since my children were young.  I don’t think you have to get very specific at a young age, however; you have to teach right from wrong and about consequences of having sex.   I have seen people we know with teenage pregnant daughters, or just one in school and used that as a very good example of what can happen to you if you rush into sex.

With my boys however; we of couse can’t become pregnant so I have taught them that if you father a child with  anyone, you will not have the things you want anymore.  It will all be about taking care of a baby.  No baseball, no future college, just work work work, and diapers.   Let me tell you they don’g want to hear that.  My oldest child has always seemed to understand that and has been very respectable.  I have told him you are not to ever risk ruining the reputation of your girlfriend.  I have explained that you will want to do things you never thought you’d want to do.  If you have made it this far,  you can continue on.  You will have the self respect that most will not have.  My youngest son will ask me alot of private questions on the side when its just the two of us and I answer as honestly and close to the point as possible.  I find that it is never to early to teach them to control their selves and what is appropriatel.

For goodness sakes you should especially teach them what is appropriate in public.  I think a lot of teenagers haven’t been taught this and that is why we them doing the things they do.  With proper guidance and education we might be able to turn the future around.
