Generation Gap

People talk; exchange ideas, share problems, emotions, laughter, agony, joy, thought, etc.; in a word they comprehend and communicate. In any aspect of our life when we don’t communicate properly, normally a distance arises that ultimately leads to the gap. So, it can be with parents, relatives or friends. The word generation gap is a modern word. But it has been there since ages.

                                                                       People lead life according to the fashion of their particular time and social status, in the country and culture they belong in. They, behave, wear, portray, and believe as the time teaches them.  They grow up with a specific code of life. Then someday they become parents and rises their children according to what they think is best for their children with the amount of money they earn and the society they value and live in. Their children is however a whole new individual, they have their own views and values and a different look and approach towards their life. And, when this outlook towards life doesn’t match between the elders and the younger ones in the family and when they can’t open up properly to each other a gap or a strain in relation takes place which sometimes ultimately leads to conflict and more problems. It’s not always because of the immense technological development or a change in fashion which creates a sense of misunderstanding between the older and younger ones but it’s because they don’t give values to each other’s views. They want to impose and establish their own views and thus the tussle takes place. Parents who have to work out, only for the development for their own family can’t give time to them; they keep their children under some babysitter or someone else. And when the child doesn’t get proper love and attention from his/her parents the gap takes place. Today I get to see many grandparents who doesn’t know the use of i-phones or laptops, is much more closer to their grandchildren and children than those who is accustomed to such advanced technologies. In many conservative families where views and outlook of the girls are of last or least priority and they are nothing more than a compulsive responsibility which must be married off before they  ruin family’s reputation, a generation gap arises as the girl can’t express her needs and views or share her problems with her family members. Many worst incidents that took place due to this gap and in most cases the victim is the girl. Nowadays, people love small family and naturally this clusters different family members. Grandparents might live with one of their son or daughter for some days, then again at someone else’s place for some time.  Or, they might stay alone in their ancestor’s home or at some old age home. So, their grandchildren don’t get time to spend with them, or sometime even with their parents. Many teenagers commit suicides under pressure of studies, for being a failure in love and other reasons. Dowry custom still kills many girls. But, all these happen because they can’t share their problems with their family.  This creates a distance which later increases if proper care is not taken.
