What kind of games are best for your children? Here are a list of game ideas.
Children love to have fun. What better way for kids to experience some fun, than playing a game. Today, there is a myriad of games available; creating the difficult task for parents to choose which games their children will enjoy; but also learn from at the same time.
Parents could keep this process simple by first asking themselves a few questions. The first question they need to consider is what games are age appropriate for their child. A game created for a 10 year old won’t be enjoyable or beneficial for a 4 year old. Parents often have fond memories of their own childhood games; desiring their own child to experience the same games, only to realize the child finds the game dull or looses the game pieces simply because they are too young for the game.
Young children, aged 5 to 8 enjoy simple board games. Board games that enhance counting, adding and memorization skills are fun for them. At this age, children also enjoy simple card games such as matching games or pattern games. Educational software or online games encourage a young child’s learning skills, as well as their typing skills. Used in moderation, these computer games are very beneficial and economical. Children at this age love party games such as musical chairs or pin the tail on the donkey. Simple, fast paced games work well with children of this age.
Children aged 10-12 love games that require more skill and concentration. They enjoy board games where they must solve problems; finding a murderer or spend play money to purchase property. They also enjoy easy word games, spelling games or easy dictionary games. This is a wonderful time to buy educational software or online games. Advanced math skills can be reinforced with repetitive games purchased online; again used in moderation. Typing tutorials can be introduced at this age, too. Online typing tutorials are numerous and economical. Parents should familiarize themselves with their child’s online games. For example, realizing that certain online games have a feature where the child can actually just skip the educational part for the fun sections; helps the parent know how to watch out for such short cuts. Children at this age can be more challenging to entertain with games at parties. They do enjoy team games played outside. Such team games can be helpful to train children of this age cooperation and consideration of others.
Older children, aged 13 and up love strategy games, fact finding games and adult card games. They like games that challenge their knowledge. Older children like to play games like charades, puzzle solving, or difficult word games. At this age, they especially like to play games where they can be on a team, instead of competing alone. This is a social age and games are an easy way for kids of this age to hang out together at parties.
Wise parents consider their child’s age and educational needs when purchasing games. They look to provide enjoyment as well as education for their child with the games they choose whether an online game or a store bought board game. Game playing is a wonderful experience for children of all ages benefiting them socially as well as individually.
