What to do with finger foods for your little one. Another little helping hand.
Your little one is thinking that its time you moved them on to finger foods, they tell you this by, showing you they are board in their high chair, little legs are restless and hands cant keep still. There is the occasional throwing of the food that they have had enough of. Another sign is crying trying to tell you they may not be full from what they been given any more. This is the opportunity to introduce finger foods for a good healthy kick start.
What are finger foods. They are named this because that is exactly what they are, food which is small enough for your little ones fingers to explore the different textures. These help with co-ordination of hand to mouth. In letting your little one take there own time with there food they learn to enjoy what you give them and may not be fussy with the food you normal eat when a little older.
Getting them started with a healthy out look could not be made easier for mostly all finger foods are vegetables and can be eaten raw, great for putting in the fridge for a quick snack.
What’s on the menu. Cucumber, carrots, cheese, broccoli, bread. Just to name a few.
The trick is to give them there food with interesting lay outs. Little ones eat with their eyes first then fingers. If something looks interesting they will want to explore. Little ones cant resist putting every thing they see in their mouths so this gives us an advantage.
How can you do this. Taking the humble carrot cut into sticks, cucumber can be sliced or diced. Be creative let them try everything on one plate, they can make their own minds up if its not for them. Make interesting pattens with what you have got, like a face. Using the cucumber for eyes and ears, cheese sliced or diced for the mouth, carrots sticks for hair. Go on have fun your little one will let you know if they approve.
