Family Tree

Where did that black cat come from and where did it go to ??

Arnos Vale Cemetery is located in Arnos Vale by Bristol in England.

It was established in 1837 and the first burial took place in 1839.

Myself and Dai had only been together for a few weeks when we decided to visit Cheddar Gorge.

While there we decided that as Dai was following his family tree we would visit the above cemetery to see if we came across any of his descendants ;most of them bearing the surname ‘Tremlett.’

Here we go : -

One light but very showery day

As Dai was following his family tree.

Looking for names in Arnos Vale

A cemetery somewhat spooky!!

Graves and tombs did surround us

And as we wondered to it’s heart

It became foreboding and haunting

And my heart gave many a start.

We read many names carved

We were looking for a’ Tremlett’

I carried on with back so straight

Very creepy the surroundings did get.

We went further on into brambles

So spooky and eerie it became.

Inch by inch I moved forward

To be brave I did always proclaim.

I heard a rustle right beside me

Like a slim knife piercing the light.

“What was that?!” I asked my Dai

But he was nowhere in sight!!!

I could hear a rustle and a crinkle

The hairs on my head stood up!!

I stood rigidly rooted to the spot

My mouth for just once zipped up.

Oh how I shook and quivered

As a pink mist fell on all !!!

Then quickly it disappeared

And a voice to me did call !!!

I stepped into years gone by.

Stood by a lady distressed !!

Tears of the broken hearted.

“Rose is my name .” she stressed.

She begged me please to help her;

So that she could rest in peace !!

Her lover’d been sent away

Her heartache had never ceased.

“I never again found him!”

” I need to lay these flowers.”

“Will you please do this for me?”

“He left in April Showers!!”

As quickly the mist dispersed

By my feet lay a posy.

I knew what I had to do

With yesterdays scent rosy.

By my side was a grey stone

With words so warmed by the sun.

“Sam never forgot his true love

Let them now rejoice as one.”

On this 4th day of April;

The year 1851.

I laid the flowers gently

In the sweet warmth of the sun.

I lay them down and whispered

“May you both now rest in peace.

Your message strongly survives

And your love will never cease.”

By my side appeared a black cat

And sent a message to my soul

“Thank you so much kind lady!”

“Your heart is so true and whole.”

The cat so simply vanished

But my heart felt a new glow.

Every time I tell this tale

The story will always grow.

Arnie. hope that you all enjoyed this story;which is true as far as that I spotted a black cat sat by a tomb stone ;Dai says he never saw it and this black cat then simply vanished.

The step back in time is fictional;but who knows ????

Whether or not there was a sign sent down to me on this very first trip or not I didn’t leave until I had found a black cat ornament or toy; and this is him who has pride of place on my fridge ;my very first trip away with Dai and also my very first fridge magnet which has since grown in number to how many I am not sure;I will have to count them all one day.

The most fitting name I could give my little black cat was Arnie: I look back on Arnos Vale with fond memories !!

I hope you all enjoyed this story.
