Eight Funny Baby Myths You May Never Have Heard of
Warning! Do not follow the instructions on this page. In my culture, there are lots of myths the older generations invented to make sense of things happening to babies or to find a solution to some baby problems. Here are some funny myths pertaining to babies which you may never have heard of.
Baby Coughing
If your baby starts to cough maybe during milk, they said that you need to pull the baby’s toes lightly and making funny noises like “ooh, ooh” in order to stop him from coughing.
Umbilical Cord
It is said that if the umbilical cord of your baby takes a long time to drop off, it means that your baby loves his mommy very much and has a difficult time detaching himself from his mother. Same goes if baby cries a lot when his umbilical cord is going to drop off.
Bending Over
If your toddler bends over and look between his legs, it means that he wants a sibling and is looking at his future brother or sister between his legs.
Folds on Baby’s Inner Thighs
If there are 2 folds on baby’s inner thighs, it is said that your next child will be a girl. If there’s only one, you will have a boy.
Want a Boy?
I have to warn you that this one is rather unethical. If you have been having a string of girls in your family and you badly want a boy, you need to steal a ladle from any family which has a lot of boys, and vice versa.
Baby is Sickly
I think this one is rather stupid. If a baby seems to be falling sick very often, throw the baby away at the dustbin. Ensure someone else picks the baby up and return it to the family. The person who picks up the baby can become the baby’s godmother subsequently. If your baby is sickly, please visit the doctor for a thorough investigation and don’t follow this stupid myth.
Baby Cries a Lot
It is said that if a baby cries a lot or is often sick, you should change its name. Apparently, the name is not suitable for the baby. In reality, baby may be colicky, be sure to see the doctor. Another myth is that if babies cry a lot, they will grow up to be smart kids.
Twin Cowlicks
It is said that babies with twin cowlicks are very stubborn. But if the twin cowlicks are close together on the babies head, then the baby loves his mommy a lot. Don’t ask me how they are related.
As for me, I don’t believe in any of them. I just enjoy listening to them being told by the older generations. It’s just fun!

Isn’t it funny how bontiful these superstitions are. It makes you wonder how any of us ever lived to grow up.

These are hilarious. This should have been posted on the humour page. I had only ever heard of one of them (wrinkles on the thighs) and that only recently. Thanks for the laugh.

The “Baby Cries A Lot” one is totally false. I almost NEVER cried when I was a baby. And I grew up pretty clever. Haha. My sister cried A LOT. And she’s pretty dumb. xDD So, I think it’s safe to say that that myth is false. =P
