Dough Ornaments

When the kids are bored and it’s too cold outside to play, why not make homemade ornaments to pass the time? Here’s a recipe that we used when I was a kid. Just remember, don’t let the kiddies eat them.
Yields: 2 servings (makes about 30 depending on sizes of cookie cutters)
Ingredients
8 cups all-purpose flour
2 cups salt
3 cups warm water
Directions
1. Preheat oven to 325 degrees F
2. Mix flour and salt well. Gradually add water, stirring with a large spoon. Finish mixing with hands. Knead until soft and pliable.
3. Roll out on floured surface about 1/8 inch thick. Cut shapes with cookie cutters. Place on cookie sheets. With a straw make a hole in the top of the ornament for threading string or ribbon. Bake at 325 degrees until hard, about 1 hour. Decorate with paint and glitter glue sticks, varnish to preserve.
Here’s the recipe I use, it’s doubled because we usually make alot and have some big cookie cutters. So you might want to cut it in half. Also, sometimes I sub the water with liquid potpourri you can get at your local dollar store. We also like to use the cookie cutters that leave the indentations in the dough so we can go over them with glitter glue sticks. Just watch because some tend to bubble or brown while the others are not finished yet. Hope you guys have lots of fun!!!!
