Don’t Use The TV as a Babysitter
Have children? Read on.
If you are a stay at home Mum with young children, then it can sometimes seem as though you’re never going to be able to get everything done in one day that you might have liked to. This can mean that you will do anything that you possibly can in order to make your children be quiet for long enough for you to get the things done in the day that you really need to. Unfortunately, a lot of Mums are now just sitting their children in front of the television for the whole of the day and this is because they don’t have anything else to do with them while they get their work done.
The first thing that you should think about is why you wanted to be a stay at home Mum in the first place. Chances are, it was because you wanted to spend time with your child and be there for them if they needed you. Although you are at home, the fact is that if you’re sitting them in front of the television for the whole of the day then they’re not being looked after, and they might have got more interaction with other people if you had taken the decision to put them into daycare while you did the housework instead.
The other issue is that you can never be sure what they’re going to be watching while you’re not in the room. Although you can indeed try to make sure that they programmes that they have on are suitable for them, there may still be some things that they see that would upset them. If you were not in the room at the time, then you wouldn’t be able to see this, and that might mean that you could not solve any issues that they might have had with the things that they’ve seen.
During the day, you could try to get your children to help you around the house as this means that you would be able to see what they were doing, and they would feel as though they were doing something to help as well. Even doing something such as give them a duster to clean the places that they could reach would be a help as they would feel great that they were able to do things with you. If you don’t feel as though you can do this, then try to do the work around the house while they’re having their nap perhaps in an afternoon. It is important that they get to know you as a person, and that you spend as much time with them while they’re still young as you possibly can. The time will be gone before you know it, and you will be wondering why you chose to spend their younger years doing house work instead of trying to spend the time with them.

Very true. There’s nothing like real parenting.
