Don’t Blame the Video Games

An article about violent video games and how people blame them for their children’s bad behavior.
Over the years people have been pointing their fingers at everyone and everything that they could think of for their children’s bad behavior. First, it was the music that they listened to. Then it was the television programs they were watching. Now it’s the video games they’re playing.
“They’re too violent!, They’re teaching our children bad behavior.” That’s what a lot of us are hearing lately; either from the people themselves or the news media. Well guess what people? I think it’s about time that those people, who like to play the blame game had better start playing it right.
Your children aren’t learning bad behavior from video games. If that were the case, what about our children’s favorite summer toy, the almighty water gun? No one has ever said that their child has become violent because of a water gun. And what about toy swords, little toy soldier, or even G.I. Joe? They all promote some kind of violence don’t they?
After all, don’t our children use their imagination when they are playing with these toys that there is some kind of violence? And don’t tell me there’s not. Cops and robbers, cowboys and Indians, war with their little action figures. We all did it at one time or another.
I believe whole heartedly that both parents and the government are to blame for this. I say this because we as parents, should learn to be more responsible, and teach our children difference between what’s right, wrong, real, and fake. But I mainly blame the government because they have put too many restrictions on us by telling us how to discipline our children.
Yes, I do agree that there should be laws to protect our children from abuse. But, to make it so that the parents are afraid to spank their children, is a big part of the problem. No discipline.
From early on our children feel that they can do whatever they want. And that’s because there is no reprimand. So if our children grow up to be homicidal maniacs we should blame our government first and then ourselves. But don’t blame the video games.
