Creating New Family Holiday Traditions

Each partner in a marriage has their own family traditions, and many manage to combine them well, but along the way you can develop your own traditions with your children.
With Christmas and Thanksgiving coming up, it is now time to start thinking about things that you can do with your family to make the process more fun and less stressful. Creating new family holiday traditions is a great way to achieve this, and get the whole family working alongside each other, taking the pressure away from you!
Having the kids helping out, by way of a new tradition, can allow to delegate some of the work associated with Christmas, and will leave you with more time and energy, to do better things once you have worn them out and put them in bed!
The first way in which you can try and figure out new holiday traditions for your family, is to work out what you did when you were younger with your family. What jobs were you allocated by your Mom or Dad or Grandparents to keep you quiet and busy while they were cooking and making last minute preparations? This is the best place to start, and it might be worth you asking the older generations in your family to work it out.
There are thousands of things you can do to start a new family holiday tradition, and the best news of all, is you can get your whole family “mucking” in and helping you do chores that you would normally have to do for yourself. Things like decorating your home with Christmas decorations. Get the kids to help decorate the tree and make a tradition of a different child putting the star or angel at the top of the tree each year. This can make life easier for yourself, and you could go further and get them to help you wrap presents, making Christmas ornaments to decorate the home, and even baking and cooking.
A great way to invite a new family holiday tradition into your home, as well as saving money is getting the kids to hand-make their Christmas cards every year. You can get card making kits for very cheap, or you could use the Christmas cards from the year before, cut the pictures out and get them to make them in this way. These will make for great, personal, (and cheap) greetings cards, and you can get the whole family involved to help you out!
You could try having a night in the run up to Christmas that is saved for having a games night or a movie night. This can help to keep the kids quiet and occupied for an evening (therefore leaving you time to relax) and an even better twist on this, would be to get them to the Grandparent’ for such an evening!
There are so many things that you can do to liven up Christmas and get the whole family involved in new holiday traditions. Why not try asking the kids what they fancy doing, and make this a tradition every year? These traditions can help you out and leave the holidays stress-free and they can also save you money as well as giving the kids something to do. An all round winner for any stressed parent!
