………and Mommy Comes Home !!

            ‘And what is Mommy thinking? ’That’s Hubby dear with his favourite ‘Lets go out’ line-‘Now, no hassles if it’s a working day tomorrow. You’re off’-says the twinkle in his eye.         

            Oh! The simple pleasures of being at home .A nice and quiet evening spent with family, ‘quality time’ with the ones you hold dearest to heart, no hurried frenzy for the next day. And……..Mommy was soon into the ‘I’m indispensable’ mood. And……….soon ‘twas time for Pop and boys to cash on it.

            ‘Mommy, can’t find my pencil box-where is it?’ ‘…..And my second tiffin should have a mushroom pizza’. ‘Where on earth are my stockings?’ ‘Oh! the milk is too hot-I burnt my lip’ wails Junior. Chaos, pandemonium-as Mommy tries to juggle sending kids, hubby, making tiffins, filling up water(the maid too knowing Memsaahib’s home is catching up on her sleep nowadays).Gosh! Rushing to work was so much better.

            ‘Can we have Dosas for lunch?’ one imploring look that would melt many a Mommy’s heart.And, can you call my friend to spend the day tomorrow. Please make that sandwich house and gems cup cakes and crocodile buns.’ Father dear not to be outdone, ‘Now you’re at home so just check up on the credit card payment and the insurance coverslip….and yes, do remember to collect my uniform from the tailor….I need it for the next sailing.’ Last minute reminders and everyone’s off.

            Phew! What a tornado! Mommy, see how ‘awesome’ the house looks-where to start from Mommy dear? So many cobwebs-where on earth did they come from-the carpet looks dirty-don’t the curtains need a wash too? And to think of the smartly clad Mommy at work everyday. What a contrast!

            But,Mommy, remember the quality time, the simple pleasures of life, the little smiles lighting up the boy’s faces as they see the uninterestingly plain sponge cake turning into a ‘Yummy’ Swiss roll; and hubby’s relaxed face too as you flip through your wedding album together and re-visit familiar places-you had been to right after holy matrimony-and you know its been worth it.

            ……As Mommy gets busy sorting out and packing things, there’s a song in her heart and a smile on her lips as she makes the most of this ‘sojourn’. Rediscovering and valuing life, making relations special-Mommy needed to come home. And she did! Soon, ‘Mommy goes to work’-shall be another story altogether!
