A Unique Way of Getting Kids to Sleep

A very unique way of getting kids to sleep. You might not have even heard of it before.

Kids – if you let them have their way, they will stay up half of the night, which means you don’t get any quality time to yourself or with “you and yours.”

There are many tips to get kids sleeping which range from, giving them warm chocolate drinks, reading them stories at night, maybe driving them round in the car until they fall asleep, good temperature/ventilation in their bedroom etc

However, there is one unique step which you might have not tried. Very simple – Tell your kid to close his/her eyes, keep still and quiet in bed for 10 minutes and they will get a reward for it. This is particularly good, if you have more than one kid, as they would get competitive and all close their eyes, keeping still for about 10 minutes.

In most cases, they would have fallen asleep before the 10 minutes. If they haven’t repeat the exercise – They will eventually nod off.

Good Luck

  1. Hi LE- What if they got up in middle of the night and asked for the reward, you promised?

  2. Oh yes we can always announce a further reward for the second time sleep.

  3. Fantastic advice, I am going to try this tonight.

  4. Good tip Elena. I’m so glad I don’t have to worry about this anymore. Another advantage of getting older.

  5. good tips

  6. Kids love rewards, this should work for most. I will share with friends. We adults can use this too! — Rest is the Reward.

  7. LMAO – How good is this? What a fabulous idea… I have got to try this at home. Not me personally lol. Although it would probably work…

  8. The simple ideas are always the best

  9. LadyE…where there is a will, there is a way…when our children were young we used to tell them about an exciting journey they were going to go on…it was a trip to the blanket fair and it invoved staying still under the bed-covers as they closed their eyes and visualized animals doing all kinds of interesting feats and at Christmas time I sing Old Toy Trains, especially to my son who is only 34…one night I sang itabout a hundred times (no exaggeration) and I was falling asleep and I would halt my singing and my son would inevitably wake me up and inform me that I kept falling asleep while singing his favourite Christmas song!!! I voted that I like this one…all I need in order to fall asleep is to sit in front of the TV or here in front of my computer…even now I find myself nodding every once in while!!! Thanks and take care…

  10. I hope that works with my nephews :-)

  11. LOL! I remember my aunt using this technique whenever we went to her place to stay and me and my cousins would refuse to sleep cos we’d rather play all night! She used to promise us ice creams!
