A child is always excited about his birthday. For parents, it is always a difficult task to organize a child’s birthday party, no matter the age. Here are a few tips on how to come up with memorable parties that can take place at home. A bit of creativity and advance planning can make your child’s party a truly original celebration!
Involve the birthday child
The birthday child will likely to have ideas about the kind of party he wants. So, involve him in the planning. Let your child pick the theme, help you with shopping and decorating, and if possible, take part in baking the cake. That will definitely spread out the anticipation. He will appreciate his party better as he knows the effort he has to put into the preparation of the party.
Themes
The first step after deciding on the date is to pick a theme. Planning a party will be a lot easier if you have a concept. Many people pick something their child loves such as cartoon characters, trucks or fairies. Here are some themes according to their age:
Toddlers (0-3 years) – favourite colour, favourite animal, sand, water, space
Preschoolers (4-6 years)- pirates, knights, dinosaurs, prince and princess, butterflies, trains
Primary School (7-10 years)- sports, budding chefs party, construction, science experiments, beading
Invitations
The easiest is to invite the number of guests according to the child’s age. Or, let the child decide on the number but with certain limit. Fewer guests can make for a more manageable party and allow more meaningful interactions. Don’t forget to include whether parents too are invited to the party or whether kids should be dropped off.
Place and decorations
You must decide the place for the party- whether it is indoor or outdoor. Decorate the area according to the chosen theme. Create the mood for the birthday party by using appropriate props and music.
Food
Opt for finger food especially for younger children. Make it a balance between sweet and savoury food, junk food and healthy food. Make the food interesting.
Games and activities
Activities should be well thought of according to the kids’ age group. Activities will make the party lively. Parents must always think of interactive activities for the children. Pacing in a party is very important too. It is better to divide the party into 10 to 15 minutes block with new activities for each block.
Party Bag
Children loves party bags. Give them wonderful thank you items that reflects the party. There is no need to spend a fortune over it. Creativity will go a long way.
