During tough economic times it is all too easy to withdraw from family and friends. Getting together to enjoy food and fun with family and friends can lift your spirit and take your mind off of your current problems.
Many people are faced with the need to alter their social calendar when money is tight. Unfortunately, when a reduction of income occurs people tend to socialize less. However, it is during difficult times that we need family and friends. We need to get together for events that can lift our spirit and at least temporarily distract us from unhappy thoughts. One way to avoid social withdrawal is to plan gatherings where everyone shares the expense, therefore making it easier on all of those involved. Arranging a food related event can be easy, inexpensive and fun. As an alternative to one person bearing the responsibility of funding a party, make it an event that everyone has a part in. Listed below are a few ideas to get your creative thoughts flowing.
* Host a cold cut party. Let the guests bring one or two items each such as sliced meat, crackers, cheese, pickles, and olives. The hostess could provide bread and drinks. Some amazing sandwiches can be created at a party like this.
* Host a fruit and cheese party. This is a good opportunity to discover new types of fruit and cheese. The hostess could provide drinks and an interesting assortment of breads and crackers.
* Almost everyone likes macaroni and cheese and there are many variations of the dish.
Hosting a macaroni and cheese party may not be beneficial to one’s diet but maybe a little comfort food during troubled times isn’t so bad. An event such as this is even better if each person brings copies of their macaroni and cheese recipe to share with others.
* Host a pizza party where the hostess provides the dough and the guests bring the ingredients for toppings. Several types of pizza can be created at each party. Just like the cold cut party, some very interesting combinations can be created at this party.
* Of course you shouldn’t overlook the regular potluck dinner. This involves a little more structure and planning to assure that too many of the same dishes don’t arrive at the table but it is still a good way to enjoy a meal with family and friends.
* You could have a hotdog party and have the guests bring various toppings, chips, and side dishes.
* Choose a theme for the party and let your guest bring items related to the theme. You can have a party with a jungle theme or a party dedicated to a specific color. Another possibility is a party based on a music theme such as beach music or country music. Use your imagination to invent various themes.
* Although not diet friendly, a cupcake party or a cookie party can be fun. Once again, a recipe exchange makes this type of party even more fun.
Even in financially trying times friends and family should get together and enjoy some food and fun. A diversion from work related or financial stress is good for everyone. Children can participate in theses parties. A pizza party is usually a hit with teenagers and it might amaze you at what children can think up as hotdog toppings. Children have some of the most creative minds when it comes to preparing unusual combinations of food items.
