  1. These aren’t alternatives. These are lame lamenesses

  2. i have to agree with cookiemonster. if i made one of these ideas for my child he would be extremely disapointed!!! I have the greatest idea!!! Cover a cake size/shaped round of styrofoam in candy. you are only limited by your imagination. customize it to whatever candy/chocolate bars you like best. its cute and fun and kids will love it!

  3. birthdays are not just about kids. if you are having an adult b-day party w/ wings and beer or cocktails and appetizers…do you really want to break into an \”official\” b-day cake w/ a bottle of beer or a cocktail in the other hand?? sometimes a bday cake just is not appropriate.

  4. A-freaking-men eddr. I am planning a 30th birthday party for my cake hating fiance and most of these ideas would be perfect for it.

  5. The writer of this article certainly has no clue about what is healthy and what is not to write something like this:

“Substitute a low calorie sweetener such as Splenda in place of the sugar and use egg whites as a substitute for the whole eggs. A birthday cake doesn’t have to be unhealthy to taste good.”

Splenda is one of the most dangerous things you could put in your body. As bad as sugar is, artificial sweeteners are far worse. Of course, the writer comes from the assumption that what makes things unhealthy is 1) Calories and 2) Fat content. Both assumptions are faulty health/science that should have been thrown out years ago.
