Remember When

How many of you can remember those times as a teenager when your life was much simpler than it is today? A time frame when you were younger but less cautious than you are these days. Think back to the times when we often had our eyes on the chance for some good clean exciting fun which most kids today fail to grasp even when presented with the opportunity to experience such an event.

Even than however in our youthful days we had a form of survival kit with us to help get our minds in order and our feet on the ground. It wasn’t made of items we currently find on our emergency bug out kits or in our 72 hour emergency bags but an entirety different variety of supplies. For the sake of nostalgic let’s review what we now recall about our early survival kits in those days.

First our survival kit had plenty of rubber bands to help us be flexible in all of our daily activities. We had a Starburst to supply us with an abundant amount of energy for those times when we felt we had none available to give. We had several common Safety Pins so that we could hold everything in our life together along with a bag of marbles to replace any that we may lose as we travel our life’s path.

As with any sort of survival kit our kit had a match to re-light our fire once the flame of motivation had burned out. I always had a vast supply of Hershey’s Kisses in my kit as a reminder that I am loved by someone. A small sponge was often added to help me soak up the vast amount of knowledge that was continually being tossed in my direction. A knotted rope for those times when I felt I had reached the end of my rope. All I needed to do was tie a knot in it and hang on for dear life.

I always had a package of lifesavers carefully stowed in my bag for those moments when things got really tough. They would keep me from going crazy when things simply failed to work out the way they should or the way I expected them to.

So as an adult I ask you, were we prepared to face life complete with all of its harsh challenges? I believe we were and as a valuable resource for your own children I would like to recommend that you construct just such a kit and present it to them with love and understanding. It is not the child’s fault today that the world is in the condition that it is but rather our fault. You may wish to supply your children with a survival kit such as mine to keep them going when times get rough and hard to navigate. In the long run you will be glad you did.

  1. great work you are talented

  2. Wear a helmet when riding a bicycle? I did not even own a helmet. Nor did anybody else. We put cards in the spokes to make a noise that I am sure was vastly irritating to adults. We got hurt and then recovered. Kids who are totally protected from the dangers of the world around them are defenseless when they are exposed to it.

  3. funny but serious, what a great memory

  4. awesome work!
