How to Prepare for 2012

Rumors of 2012 have sparked much fear in the minds of many. Some feel that there is no need to bother preparing because we are all likely to die if the predictions are true. Some others believe they should try. If you are one of these there are many things that you can do in preparation for survival in case of a disaster. 

As far as food goes, canned food is always a good option. This includes canned meat such as Spam or tuna fish. Peanut butter, crackers, dry cereal and trail mix are also good because they are low maintenance and quick. Foods that are high in fat and salty are not the way to go because they’ll make you thirsty and you probably want to save as much water as possible during an emergency. Instant meals(i.e. ramen soup) and dry foods are good. A good plan to have is at least 2 cans of food per day per person. It is also smart to have about 2 gallons of water saved for each person for each day. You may want to store extra due to the fact that you may want to take a bath, wash clothes, and need some to prepare some foods. There will be some other utensils that you will need to assist with your foods. This includes a can opener, a barbecue pit or propane unit, lighter fuel, charcoal, a lighter, and matches(which will also come in handy for other things as well). Zip lock bags and storage containers are also important to use for storage.

It may be useful to take a CPR class. A first aid kit is also a necessity along with ibuprofen,aspirin, and any medications that you may need. Instant hand warmers will be good for winter.

Some extras that you may want to consider are things like individual koolaid packets to make a change from water. If the electricity goes out, which is a possibility if the predictions are true, then you will need a light source. Flashlights will always come in handy, candles, and lanterns. You may want to invest a solar flashlight. You may want to have a radio; they make some crank and solar radios. Some things to have in handy since we’re not really sure what will come our way are a tent, rope, a tarp, a fire extinguisher, duct tape, generator, and multi function tool. 

Many are storing food but don’t forget the other things that will come in handy such as toilet paper, garbage bags, soap, and disinfectant.
