Food Storage for a Complete Year

Storing food for long term survival is an undertaking that could conceivably save your life one day. These very same foods that you are now placing in your food pantry can serve you well in a great diversity ranging from the potential time when you may lose your job to a point where disaster may be eminent. These emergency goods are capable of sustaining your family and yourself until the grocery stores once again have a stock of foods stacked neatly on their shelves. During a financial crisis it can afford you with adequate food to get you over a short term period until your resources returns to normal.

These emergency goods are capable of sustaining your family and yourself until the grocery stores once again have a stock of foods stacked neatly on their shelves. During a financial crisis it can afford you with adequate food to get you over a short term period until your resources returns to normal.
Both government agencies as well as private concerns have been recommending emergency preparation for some time now. We would concur with them and advise you to stockpile food goods to last you for at least a three months period. These supplies are entirely essential in order to ensure your survival during times of emergency.
In addition to a three month supply you would discover that a long term plan involving food storage would actually do you a bit better. Logically thinking, instead of sustaining your family for a mere three months you can easily expand that time frame to a 12 month food supply. I have listed a few helpful ideas and tips that can assist you in achieving that ambition.
- Keep your planning to mere staple items such as wheat, water, cereals and canned goods. Each of these are good choices.
- Consider the food likes of all the family members and then base your food storage around these likes. If you happen to have a young baby in the home be sure to store up on baby food and instant milk.
- Make sure that the items which you are storing up on are not perishables. Always keep in mind that you are storing up for a long term event and not as a weekly shopping trip.
- Don’t forget to store up enough water supplies as well. One gallon containers of water are made from very flimsy plastic and they tend to deteriorate with age so beware of storing gallons of water. PET bottles of the 16 to 20 ounce size store well as do the heavy plastic 5 gallon containers.
- I like to store up on olive oil but you may wish to use vegetable oils in their place. Make sure you store up on enough to last you.
- Lastly let’s not forget the medications that may be required by family members.
You can make your emergency times much more manageable if you properly store up on supplies. Don’t be one of those last minute people that rush to the grocery store just as a disaster is about to happen. Get your supplies ahead of time and be ready.
