In our lifetime we may never encounter the infringement of the common house or apartment roach. In the event that we are unfortunate enough to encounter them, there are ways to eradicate these little critters, though not so simple, it takes time and patience.
You may live in your own home, or an apartment in which sharing some of the adjacent neighbors have some common walls. Whether they originate from a neighbor, or you unknowingly brought them in by having recently purchased a piece of used furniture from a yard sale, or even a used furniture store, how they got in to make your apartment their home is not really important. What is your goal now is to find the best way to get rid of them and the reason for this is that they can, if properly fed, begin to multiply and sometimes pretty quickly. First and foremost, having recently noticed an unusual insect that you or anyone in your household has never seen before that begins to reappear fairly often or on a daily basis, is about a half inch long, especially if there is more than one at the same time, you have a problem. If it is in the middle of winter, this could also be a good indication you have a roach problem and not from summer born insects.
Some Things You Can Do…
Once you are certain that roaches have begun to infest your apartment, you can approach the landlord and let them know the problem you have. They will probably set up a date in which they will hire an insect control outfit that will come into your apartment with special insecticides and ask that you move all your furniture away from the walls, usually only in the rooms that are affected. Another and more preferred way is to purchase a Roach Motel product that contains a toxin inside each little home, so that when they visit one, they carry the toxin to their nest or centralised colony, infecting whoever they come in contact with. The infected roaches will usually succumb to the toxin in the very hiding place they live. If you decide to take this latter method, remember, patience is a virtue and is key to successful eradication of the critters. Once you begin this program of purchasing close to a dozen of the little roach homes, you must place them in the very area that you have observed them roaming. Place them a couple of feet apart in base cabinets around your stove, sink and refrigerator. You should begin to see the effect on their declining population in a few weeks. Some people see them in their bathroom when they turn on the lights in the middle of the night, since light will usually startle them. It is important to read the instructions on each individual product, since some may be a little different.
If you have been untiring in your approach, you will eventually gain a foothold and begin to see results. The infesting colony will begin to visually wane in their presence and if you are totally successful, disappear from your life as if they never existed.
