The ability of an engine to last long depends greatly of the mode of maintenance given to it.

Apart from the mode of servicing that I am about to explain, there are other precaution taken by the designers of Cummins engine in other to ensure a sudden failure in the engine and elongation of its lifespan. An example of this is the installation of sensors on almost every part of the engine that can lead to sudden failure. Some of these important sensors are the oil sensors. This sensor is installed on the oil sump. Their job is to detect the shortage of oil level in the sump, when this is detected; the generator automatically shuts down on its own in other to prevent a knocked engine. Other sensors are the coolant sensor that detects the temperature of the engine from the mixture of water and coolant in the radiator. Any sudden rise in temperature will also lead to the shutdown in other to prevent overheating. Precautions like these can also lead to the long lasting of the engines.
