How to Plan Before You Put Up a Fence

So you are thinking about putting up a fence around your yard. If you are thinking about putting a fence up you need to consider what kind of fence, what style, how tall, and what you are trying to keep out or keep in.

While you are thinking about all these things don’t forget to figure in the cost of this project from start to finish. Listed in the steps below should be the first three things to consider.

Step 1: Know where your property lines are at and don’t just guess where they are at. It’s best to know for sure to ensure you stay friends with your neighbor especially if you have a picky neighbor. To play it safe and you are not completely 100% sure hire a surveyor to locate and mark the property lines.

Step 2: Know if your community has any ordinances concerning placement, height, and setback requirements for fences. You also need to talk to your local city or county building authorities before you begin this project.

Step 3: Know where your underground utilities are located. These utilities include water lines, gas lines, power lines, and phone and cable lines. If you have a sprinkler system you need to know where all those pipes are located.  

You thought all you had to do was just go out and buy the stuff and put it up. Think again the fun has just begun on this project of putting up a fence.
