How to Make an Easy Shawl

A quick step-by-step guide to make a funky shawl.

This shawl uses a really easy lace stitch called faggot stitch that makes an almost fishnet-like pattern. Once you’ve got the hang of it, it’s dead easy and great fun to make.

Take three or four balls of yarn, I chose a fun fluffy eyelash one, but you can use anything, especially if it’s shiny, fluffy and exciting.

Cast on 40 stitches

Now you start the pattern. Knit 1, then wrap the yarn once around the needle (yo), then knit the next two stitches together (k2tog). Continue 1yo, k2tog to the end of the row.

Now each time you start a new row, cast on two more stitches. This makes a cool elongated semi-circle shape to the shawl.

Continue casting on 2 on each row, and knitting 1yo, k2tog until the shawl is the desired size. I measured mine so that its width would cover my arm.

Bind off not too tightly. If you want a fringe, add one, but with the fluffier yarn, I don’t think it needs it.

And you’re done.

Here are some pictures of the finished shawl.
