How to Build Log Stairs

Log stairs.

Log stairs is mostly seen in rural area, one feature in your log house that you can creed off is the log staircase. Anyone can envy you if you have a simple but eye catching kind of a log stairs. If you have a log house then log stairs is a must have. One occasion a foreigner travelled to another country where most of the houses are made of logs. The foreigner fell in love to the log stair installed in a lodging house where they spent their vacation, although the log stair is quite simple but they were struck by how it was structured and polished. It has half logs for the steeps and perfectly knitted into the home’s layout. We have the desire to make a simple but yet elegant log stairs. To begin, comply the materials below:

Materials:

Logs

Nails

Polish paint or varnish

Tools:

Saw

Hammer

A nail gun

Framing square

Measuring tools: rulers, type measure, meter stick

Two Steel brackets, two cleat brackets, and one spacer for each step

STEP 1 – THE LOGS

Mill the logs complementing the measure and layout of the house. Have two pairs of stringers, 8 risers mostly 6” high, and 8 treads. Note, that the measurement is not considered here because we don’t have the same house layout but find the preferable measurement using user measuring tool.

Step 2 – Configure the spacer

Make it sure that the adjustable spacer has the exact tread combinations and the appropriate rise.

STEP 3 – PLACING THE STEEL BRACKETS

Lay down two stringers and joining its sides. Place the steel brackets on the joined stringers and use the spacer to gap the distance between the brackets and then nail slightly the brackets on place and remove the spacers. Set exact rise and tread using a framing square the brackets attached. Nailing the brackets firmly to the stringers but except the tail brackets until end cuts are created.

STEP 4 – THE STRINGERS, RISERS, AND TREADS

Use the ruler to mark the ends of the stringers appropriately then cut the through the line the ends of the stringer but only 3 cuts on the other end of the stringer forming a little semi-triangle for the purpose of placing one end of the stair rightly to the floor. Now attach all the risers properly between the two stringers paralleled and nail it. Risers are designed also as the load bearing support across the stair. And then place all treads appropriately to the almost done log stair and but before nailing it. Consider first step 5.

STEP 5 – FOR FURTHER STABILITY OF THE LOG STAIR

The log stair is almost done but it is considerable also to put a pair of cleat brackets to add the strength of the log stair.

STEP 6 – IT IS FINISH

The log stair is ready to be installed to the house but before it, it is also advice that you should varnish the stair to hide the steels that you utilized in making in. We are finished in making a simple but elegant log stair.
