How to Ant-proof Your House

We have been fighting a never-ending battle with gnats and ants. In this article, I will share what we have done to try to keep the ant population at bay.

It is getting warm outside.  With warm weather comes bugs.  The ants start finding their way into your house.  Before you know it, you go to pour a bowl of cereal and there are ants in it.  This is the scenario that I had last year.  This year, they found their way into a box of donuts.

The first thing that we did was to buy ant traps and place them where we saw the pesky little critters.  The second thing we did was to go buy some tall plastic tupperware type containers.  These need to have a tight seal on them.  Otherwise the ants will still get in.  I tried putting cereal in a tupperware pitcher before we purchased the square containers.  The pesky ants got into the cereal in the pitcher.  I vowed revenge.  I am not willing to share my food with bugs.

For pets, you will need an aluminum pie tin.  Place a small amount of water in it then place your pet’s food dish in the middle.  The ants will go in the water to get to the food and drown.  Ants hate chalk.  You can use chalk to draw boundaries or cayenne pepper.  This burns their skin. I have also read that if you put cornmeal out that they will eat it then drink water and die.  I have not tried some of these methods.  It is up to you if you decide to try them.
