Homemade Fire Extinguisher

How to make a working homemade fire extinguisher!
Several years ago when I was in high school, I built a homemade fire extinguisher for my school science fair. It worked fine and I won the science fair.
All you need is:
- Baking soda
- Vinegar
- Something to hold them in like a large jar
- Towel paper
- Tape
Procedure:
- Fill the jar a third of the way up with vinegar.
- Create a pouch with the towel paper by folding the corners in to hold the baking soda.
- Poke a hole in the lid of the jar.
- Fill your pouch with baking soda and tape that to the lid.
All you need to do is shake the jar and point it at a fire. If you want to test it out, test it outside for safety reasons. This fire extinguisher works because the reaction creates carbon dioxide and water which are two things that put out fire.

Heh I’m doing a similar science fair project based on extinguishing fires. I used vinegar, lemon juice, and water combined with baking soda to determine which combination worked the best. I tested them all separately, and found that the combination of lemon juice with baking soda was just as effective as the combination of vinegar and baking soda. Oh great, the deadline is a week away!
Gotta get back to work.

lol been on vacation this week. Diluted vinegar can be used and I just made a basic guide so you can change it around for your needs

heyy,
me and my friend are doing a smilliar science experiment here at school.
have you tried making a bunch of the fire extinguishers and letting them set for diffrent periods of time? like after an hour? a day? or mabye even a week? We are going to try this and were wondering if it will actually stop working after a certain period of time.
If anybody has any suggestions if they could let us know that would be great.

heyy, me again
just wanted to say that i tried out the experiment and well it worked if you used it right away, we made awhole bunch and tested them at diffrent times and well they really didnt work at all. But does anybody know what items you could use for putting out a fire if you didnt have a fire extuingsher and didnt have enough time to make your own??

my son and i just got done making this for him science project for school and we use a tea bag to hold the baking soda and it works awsome! he presents his project in acouple days and i hope everything goes well!

cool im ddoin this 4 my 5th grade science fair i just got it assigned 2 me today but instead im goin to put the vinegar and backing soda in a soda bottle and then im going 2 tip the soda bottle over a lit candle which the carbon dioxcide will bring out the fire its cool cause i can actually bring a lighter or matches in my school most of the schools i kno is that u cant usae fire in school but its ok…….buuut i am hyper and a little well alot of carried away with things soo this girl is just today just oh crap mason is goin 2 burn the building down i just got pissed and just saw wat other sscienc experiment it was alittle hard because i had to answer wat the scientifical question or hypothesis it is im going 2 use on my project im sorta not supposed 2 be on the computer right now or ill get in trouble so yea bye guys sry 4 waisting ur time take care
