Well ,Christmas time is nearly upon us.Let’s fill the season with the sights,smells and tastes of a traditional (Old Fashioned )Christmas feast.Let’s start with drinks.
Mulled Wine Recipe
Ingredients:
1 teaspoonful cinnamon, mace, and cloves, in equal parts,
1/4 pint water,
1 pint claret
sugar to taste
Preparation:
Boil 1 teaspoonful of cinnamon, mace, and cloves, in equal parts, with 1/4 pint of water, and 1 pint of claret and sugar to taste.
Stir and serve hot
White House Egg Nog Recipe
Ingredients:
12 egg yolks
sugar
1 glass brandy
1 glass old whisky
1 grated nutmeg
3 pints rich milk
12 egg whites
Preparation:
Beat the yolks of twelve eggs very light, stir in as much white sugar as they will dissolve, pour in gradually one glass of brandy to cook the egg, one glass of old whisky, one grated nutmeg, and three pints of rich milk.
Beat the whites to a froth and stir in last.
Poinsettia Champagne Cocktail Recipe
Ingredients:
1/2 oz triple sec
3 oz cranberry juice
Champagne
Preparation:
Pour triple sec and cranberry juice into a chilled Champagne flute.
Add in Champagne to fill.
Christmas Bowl Recipe
Ingredients:
9 small sponge cakes
1/2 pound of macaroons
1 pint of malaga or sweet raisin wine
1 table-spoonfuls of sherry
2 ounces of sugar
some nutmeg
1 1/2 pints of thin custard
Preparation:
- Break up 9 small sponge cakes and 1/2 pound of macaroons in a bowl. All must be stale.
- Add 1 pint of malaga or sweet raisin wine, 1 table-spoonfuls of sherry, 2 ounces of sugar, and some nutmeg, also 1 1/2 pints of thin custard.
- Stir well;
English Wassail Recipe
Place 2 gallons of cider in a large punch bowl and add
a large lump of ice
6 bananas, cut in thin slices
6 oranges, cut in slices and then in small pieces
1 medium-sized bottle of maraschino cherries
small baked apple.
Cut the cherries into tiny bits and use the juice also. Put in one baked apple for each guest. The apples are afterward eaten with a fork. Mix and serve.

Rosettes
Ingredients:
2 eggs
1 tablespoon sugar
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 cup flour
1 cup whole milk
1 teaspoon vanilla
peanut oil for deep frying
1 cup sugar
2 teaspoons cinnamon
Preparation:
Beat eggs slightly. Add 1 tablespoon sugar and salt. Add flour and milk alternately, blending until smooth. Stir in vanilla. The batter should be about as thick as pancake batter. If it isn’t, add more flour, a tablespoon at a time. If it is too thick, add a teaspoon of milk at a time.
