Thrifty Hamburger Meal Recipes
A wide variety of meals can be made with lean ground beef. Even fussy eaters will love these nutritious, easy-to-prepare hamburger creations. Each recipe is so unique, that you can serve them for several days in a week. No more boring hamburger meals will please the busy cook.
Hearty Casserole Recipe
1 pound lean ground beef
1/2 pound rotini or other pasta
1 cup chopped onion
1 #2 can of tomatoes
1/4 teaspoon pepper
1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
1 can corn niblets
Saute the hamburger until golden brown. Boil the pasta in slightly salted water until tender. Drain the rotini and combine it with the hamburger. Add the onion, tomatoes, tomato sauce, salt, pepper, garlic powder and Italian seasoning to the meat. Fold in the corn.
Place the mixture in a 1 1/2 to 2 quart casserole dish that has been sprayed with cooking spray . Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Put casserole into oven and bake for 45 to 50 minutes.
Delicious Applesauce Meatloaf
1 pound lean ground beef
3/4 pound of pork sausages with casings removed
1/2 teaspoon sage
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 1/2 cups dry bread crumbs
1/2 teaspoon pepper
2 cups apple sauce
Mix all of the ingredients together. Spray a loaf pan with cooking spray. Pack ingredients into loaf pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 45-50 minutes. Serve hot or cold. Great for meatloaf sandwiches too!
Mexican Hamburger Meal
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 cup rice
1 pound lean ground hamburger
1 medium chopped onion
1/2 teaspoon garlic salt
1 can of #2 tomatoes
2 bouillon cubes dissolved in 1 cup of warm water
1 tablespoon chili powder
1 teaspoon salt
dash pepper
Heat the olive oil in a large skillet with lid. Add the rice and cook until it turns white. Add the ground meat and cook until it is browned. Add the onion and garlic salt. Add a dash of pepper. Cook until the onion is soft. Add the tomatoes, bouillon, chili powder and salt. Mix well.
Cover and simmer for 35 to 40 minutes. Stir occasionally. Cook until all liquid is absorbed by the rice. If liquid remains, cook for 5 more minutes making sure the lid is tight.
