Steps on How to Make Squid Look Clean and Yummy

One of the most popular sea foods is squid. Here’s how to clean and prepare fresh squid for cooking to make them look clean and delectable.
Squid are one of the most abundant marine harvest and one of the most consumed fishes in the world especially in coastal areas. Squids are prepared for human consumption in various ways. The two most common ways are by curing or cooking them fresh.
Here’s a step by step procedure on how to clean and cook fresh squid to make them look more appealing to eaters.

These three pieces of medium-size squid weigh 1 kg and they appear nasty because of the black pigments on their skin. Cook can get rid of these black markings by following this simple procedure.
Step One

The first thing to do is to remove the head of each squid. Slice the squid horizontally as it is shown on the above photo.
Step Two

Next, using the sharp tip of a knife slightly cut the squid diagonally from bottom to top starting from the left and finishing in the right with spaces of about ¼ in.
Step Three

Do the same thing, this time slightly cutting the squid from top to bottom starting from the right and finishing in the left with the same spaces of about ¼ in.

This is how the squid looks like after doing steps two and three.
Step Four

Slice the squid horizontally in the middle and cut it vertically into pieces with a length of about ¾ to 1 in.
Step Five

Cook squid and this is how it looks like after cooking. The pieces of squid will curl inward when cooked due to the diagonal markings making them appear yummy without those black coloring and leaving them look even more tempting because of their unique design.
