State Fair Carnival Food; Health Hazards on a Stick
It’s that time of year, when many will flock to the fair, and most will eat almost anything deep fried and overpriced.
The fair is coming to town, and along with it are food vendors who stand to make a healthy profit selling some very unhealthy items. Consumers tend to throw caution to the wind in a carnival atmosphere, and here are a few of the insanely unhealthy items they will gladly devour.
One is the deep fried oreo. Oreos are no health food in the first place, of course, but by the time one is battered and fried, it packs around 80 calories, according to Livestrong.com, and who is going to eat just one?
Along the same lines is the deep fried Twinkie. This delectable treat contains 420 calories, 32 grams of fat and 45 grams of carbohydrates, according to calorieking.com, and that’s without any added powdered sugar, chocolate or sauce that may be added onto the top.
Perhaps one of the worst offenders is deep fried butter, which contains over 400 calories and more than 45 grams of fat from just the two ounces of butter even before it is put in the deep fat fryer and glazed.
The classic funnel cake is another diet disaster, weighing in at 760 calories with 44 grams of fat.
And, last but not least, it may surprise you to know that the worst of all is the giant turkey leg, which packs a whopping 1,136 calories and 54 grams of fat; that is more than many people eat in an entire day.
So, if you think that you are going to walk off what you eat at the fair, think again. Perhaps we should be glad that these delicacies are only available once a year!
