Small Tricks to Healthier Comfort Food Part Three

In this final installment macaroni and cheese is discussed. The method needed to make healthier yet delicious macaroni and cheese will be explained.

In this installment we will talk about how to make macaroni and cheese that is healthier yet tastes very delicious. The nice thing about living today is many of the cheese makers are making lower fat cheeses using 2% milk fat.              

The method I am going to explain is very quick and easy. All the ingredients needed are as follows: One box of Velveeta Shells and Cheese 2% Dinner or one box of Kraft Deluxe Macaroni and Cheese 2%, ½ cup of shredded cheddar cheese or pepper jack cheese, and one cup of crushed baked tortilla chips.

Cook macaroni and cheese according to the package directions. After draining macaroni, place it back in the pan and add the cheese sauce. Also add the other ½ cup of shredded cheese and mix well. Spray a 9×9 or 8×8 square baking dish with no-stick spray and place macaroni mixture in the baking dish. Sprinkle the top with the crushed chips. Cover with aluminum foil and bake for 15 minutes at 400 degrees. Serve with your favorite meat and vegetable dishes or just by it-self.

This is a very easy way to enjoy a comfort food favorite. In all actuality, most any recipe can be converted to a healthier form. All it takes is some planning and thought.
