Quick Fixes in The Kitchen
We all have kitchen problems from time to time, overdone pasta, salty soup, limp greens, stale rolls are just a few that are apt to crop up. Here are a few quick fixes to solve your little accidents. And you don’t have to tell a soul.
Kitchens boo boos happen to all of us who cook. Here are just a few ways to fix up some of the more common problems. One of them might save throwing out a pot of food and starting anew.
Overcharred steak: Rub it with a mixture of ground black pepper, chili powder, garlic, then present it as blackened. Or slice it up and use it in stir fries, salads, or fajitas.
Stale rolls: Flick them with water, then microwave with a damp cloth over them for a few seconds, or wrap in foil and heat in the oven a few minutes. They will taste good as fresh.
Sticky noodles: Drain and cool, then return to a saute pan, add a little oil or butter, a few drops of water and reheat slowly on low heat.

Overdone Pasta: Run cold water over the pasta for a few minutes, then reheat in tomato sauce. The acid will perk it right up.
Dry fish: Brush with a mixture of butter and lemon juice, then sprinkle with chopped rosemary, cilantro, or savory. The sauce will add moisture and herbs will add flavor.
Limp greens: Run cold water over them briefly, then wrap in a damp towel and refrigerate. They will come right back to life.
Overripe fruit: Cut out the bad parts and discard. Use the rest for a salad, smoothies, purees, sorbets or ice cream.
Overcooked vegetables: Cool in cold water, just like the pasta, then reheat briefly in vegetable or meat stock, then squirt in a little tomato or lemon juice before serving.

Oversalted soup: Add some uncooked pasta or raw potato to the pot. Discard the pasta or potato after about 15 minutes. The starch will absorb the salt.

Thank you so much. You really helped me. My daughter and I go to a take out Italian restauarant all the time. She gets lasagna which is huge and a salad and two pieces of garlic bread (For a little over 6 dollars) if she can’t finish garlic bread it gets stale overnight. Now we know what to do. Thank you so much.

Thanks for these great tips Ruby! Of course, living with four dogs as I do means food is rarely thrown away – our dogs will eat just about anything. NO onions or grapes or chocolate though – dangerous for dogs.
