Paula Deen’s Son Has a New Gig
Paula Deen’s son Bobby has a new cooking show. He has worked with his mother in the Lady and Sons restaurant in Savannah Georgia for the last twenty years cooking his moms fat decadent recipes. In his new show which started on January four at nine P.M. Wednesdays on the cooking channel, he will take those decadent recipes and make them healthy. It might be interesting to see how he manages that.
Since Paula Deen announced that she had diabetes, her son Bobby Deen has a new show called, “Not My Mama’s Cooking” He could have added, Mama’s cooking is unhealthy with all that fat and sugar. But being the good son he is, he didn’t. Bobby Deen loves to talk, just as his mother does but where they differ is in their philosophy on food. He looks at food as fuel for a healthy body, that’s the message he hopes to send from his new show. Bobby is taking Paula Deen’s recipes and making them healthier. He’s cutting back the fat and calories but the taste remains the same. For example he takes the red velvet cake and instead of using three cups of sugar as Paula does, he uses one cup. In other recipes instead of mayonnaise or sour cream, he uses Greek yogurt. He takes his mama’s recipes and makes them healthy.

Bobby Deen says, when he turned 30 years old he had already worked 10 years in the family restaurant. He hadn’t been to a gym in a long time. He saw men come into the restaurant who were in good shape and he was envious. He was overweight, soft and didn’t feel healthy. He began to exercise and watch his diet and it became a big part of his life. It changed his relationship with food. He lost weight and is now healthy and fit. Deen says, his mom is supportive of his show and there is no feud between them. She has one relationship with food and he has another. And there is no conflict between them.
Paula Deen said earlier she didn’t plan to change her recipes, although she has type 2 diabetes. She will serve the same food that made her famous at her Lady and Sons restaurant in Savannah Georgia. She says, she has always advised everyone to eat decadent foods in moderation. Deen is also doing a show for the company who manufactures her diabetes medication. She will give health tips and provide recipes for diabetics. Is she playing each side against the middle? On the one hand she serves the richest calorie laden food possible at her restaurant. But on the Diabetic medication show, gives tips for low calorie foods. It also seemed strange that she didn’t announce that she had type diabetes until she had a lucrative contract with the medication manufacture. Does Paula Deen have a head for business or what?

It seems she does have a head for business, Ruby, also sounds like she has two faces under one hat.

Perhaps it’s just a trick to find another new business opportunity from the same field, but still it’s cool. Thank you ^_^

It is good that Bobby wants to cook healthy foods as opposed to his mother. She needs to do that too since she has diabetes. Thanks for sharing.

Being a lousy cook, I’m addicted to cooking shows. Can’t get enough of them. Well done on a super piece of writing, Ruby. First Class.

Cutting back the fat does not compute with having diabetes. His mother is doomed because neither of them take her disease seriously. I mean she’s had it for 3 years and hasn’t lost a single pound? (She admitted she hasnt) and still eats WHITE FLOUR PASTA AND DRINKS SWEET TEA? Enjoy having no toes in the future, crazy lady!
