How to Make Pickles

A brief block of instructions that will have you pickling in no time.

If you are not me, you like pickles. Despite my disdain for these vinegar soaked vegetables, I realize that there are many of you out there that, not only enjoy eating them, but may also enjoy making them. Keep in mind that there are many different types of pickles as well as different methods for making them. However, we will keep it simple here.
The first thing you need to do to make pickles is pick some cucumbers from the garden. Try to ensure that they are not thick skinned. If they have thick skin they will take much longer to saturate and this will compromise the taste. Next, you want to boil vinegar, salt and water. You should let the cucumbers cure in this solution for at least three weeks.
If you want to experiment with different seasonings for your pickles, try adding the different seasonings, in moderation, right into the jar with the curing cucumbers. Once you have the vinegar solution boiling, slowly add it to the jar of pickles and then seal the jars. Once the jars are sealed, boil them for another five to eight minutes inside the jar. Now we wait. At least three weeks later, you have pickles!
Just always remember one thing, a pickle is still a pickle even if it were once a cucumber.

Great article! This is the first time I actually read how to make pickles. So, how do you make dill pickles? Because I don’t like dill pickles and I don’t want to accidently make dill pickles if I do decide to make some pickles
