Gas Grills Work Great, Only If They’re Kept Clean

Keeping a gas grill clean will definitely keep an even flame a food done to perfection.

Every couple of uses, a gas grill should be cleaned to remove the excess buildup inside the grill and on the racks. If you wanted to be really particular, it wouldn’t hurt to do it before every cookout. In my many experiences with the “kiss the cook” apron on grilling out in the backyard, I’ve found that gunk can accumulate from a wide variety of sources. Wheather its that tasty marinade smeared all over your favorite steak or just the grease bursting out of a tasty bratwurst, its can get nasty.

There are some spray on cleaners that can be used to rid the grill of this buildup and they can work quite well. Most of these can be found at virtually any store and simply get sprayed on and wiped off after several minutes. Another less savory method is what I’ve found to be a little messy but effective nonetheless. I remove the racks and take a wire brush to them. This should probably be done over a garbage can or in your neighbors yard because it is messy! I take a putty knife to the inside of the grill itself and scrape the residue down through the bottom. Once again, quite messy but very effective.

After getting the grill cleaned out you will definitely notice a much better barbecue experience. The flare-ups are gone and the flame burns much more evenly all across the area of the grill. No more downing hockey puck hamburgers for lunch. After getting the grill nice and clean and ready for use, continue to do this on a very regular basis because it will be much easier to clean and keep clean if the nasty, greasy buildup doesn’t accumulate to critical levels again.
