Fast Crumble Topping

Many popular dishes (desserts such as cobblers and apple crumble in particular) call for a crumble topping which is where this general-purpose, fast and simple crumble topping shines. What’s more, you can even tweak it to your heart’s content.

Crumble Topping Ingredients:

  • 200g of Plain Flour
  • 100g of Chilled Butter
  • 50g of Soft Brown Sugar

Food Processor Method:

  1. Sift the plain flour
  2. Cut chilled butter into chunks
  3. Into the bowl of a food processor add the plain flour and the butter chunks
  4. Pulse briefly until the mixture resembles breadcrumbs
  5. Add the soft brown sugar to the flour and butter mixture
  6. Pulse briefly to make the crumble topping
  7. Gather crumble topping mixture together into a ball or log
  8. Wrap the crumble mixture in plastic wrap and refrigerate for 20 minutes or until the crumble mixture is ready to use and you are ready to use it
  9. Use when ready

Manual Method:

  1. Sift the plain flour
  2. Into a large mixing bowl add the sifted flour
  3. Grate the block of chilled butter into the flour
  4. Rub the butter into the flour using your fingers or a pastry cutter, until the mixture resembles fine breadcrumbs
  5. Using a fork stir in the soft brown sugar and mix well
  6. Gather the crumble topping mixture together into a ball or log
  7. Wrap the crumble topping mixture in plastic wrap and refrigerate for 20 minutes or until the crumble mixture is ready to use and you are ready to use it
  8. Use when ready
