Creative Spring Cupcake Ideas

Decorate your spring cupcakes with perfect ornaments for the early spring months. Add a seasonal touch using a little creativity and some easy-to-find craft choices.

Spruce up your spring cupcakes with some unique decorations. A few simple tools and suggestions will help you create one-of-a-kind cupcakes no one can resist.

Spring Robin Nests.

Top your cupcakes with a symbol of spring: a robin’s nest. Cut or break shredded wheat into “sticks” and mix with a thin white glaze made from powdered sugar and lemon juice. Mold into a nest shape, making sure to press an indent in the center (the more shredded wheat sticking out “nest-like” around the edges, the better).

Add some marbleized or speckled blue jelly beans or mini candy Easter eggs to complete the nest. Place each one on top of a frosted cupcake.

Garden Variety

Create a “garden cupcake” by covering the surface in pale green icing or shaved coconut dyed green with food coloring to create grass, or crush Oreo cookies and sprinkle over chocolate icing for “dirt”.

Use a flower-shaped candy mold to press sugar-cookie dough into flower blossoms. Bake, then ice with a colored glaze and add a few blossoms to each cupcake. For a simpler solution, try creating “icing buds” with a special icing tip: let dry on wax paper, then peel and add to the top.

Daisy Heads

Use a tube of icing or icing bag with a tip to create long lines or daisy-like “petals” across the top of each cupcake. Choose fun and bright colors, and add a small dab of icing to the center. Press a bright round yellow candy (like butterscotch or caramel) into the center of each flower.

A little imagination goes a long ways in dressing up cupcakes. Create a spring-themed work of art sure to please your guests or hungry fans.
