Being careful how and what we cook can help avoid health problems associated with fat consumption.
It is no secret that fried foods are not good for a persons health. Fried foods lead to obesity and heart problems that plague North America. We hear it all the time. Fats can cause heart disease and cancer.
However, this does not have to be the case. Frying food properly and with the right oil makes all the difference in the world.
For years we were told by those in the know to eat margarine and polyunsaturated oils for good health. That was until 1998 when overwhelming evidence came out informing people to limit trans fat. Of course this is the main ingredient in margarine. Another name you might be more familiar with is partially hydrogenated oil. Most people don’t realize that when they heat almost any oil it starts to turn into partially hydrogenated oil.
This is where coconut oil comes in.
This is one of the most stable oils you can buy and does not turn rancid easily. For years local populations have looked at coconut as a medicine food. It has some amazing healing properties.
It is an antiviral, antifungal and anti bacterial. It kills bacteria that cause a long list of ailments. Pneumonia, urinary tract infections, food poisoning, and gonorrhea just to name a few.
Athletes have come to realize its ability to boost energy and endurance. This because it is not stored like other fats, but is broken down by the liver and utilised as instant energy. As well it increases metabolism if you are interested in losing weight.
In short, when you cook, replace all your oils with coconut oil. Fry with it, bake with it, and you can even pop your popcorn in it. Whenever any recipe calls for a shortening or margarine or any other oil, simply replace it with coconut oil. I even put it in my smoothies, pasta, oatmeal and pasta sauce.
The trick is to make coconut oil a part of your everyday diet. It has already proven to reduce the risk of heart disease and enhances the immune system to combat a wide range of illnesses.
