Can My Wife Cook

The difference cooking styles between my wife and I.

My wife and I have a deal, she cooks through the week and I cook during the weekend.

I sometimes become so discouraged at her because she tries to cook everything as fast as the stove will go. I on the other hand, prefer to cook everything slow because I believe it develops more flavor.

It’s been a constant struggle to get her not to use olive oil with the stove setting on high. I have told her many upon many times that it changes the chemical composition in olive oil and it no longer retains the substance that is healthy.

It’s true she considers cooking a chore and I consider it an art form. She will cook plain white rice. I will cook curry rice and use some other base to make rice taste better. She will throw chicken in the oven and broil it tough with just salt and pepper. When it’s done she will put BBQ sauce on it and call it good. I will make my own BBQ sauce and baste the chicken while it’s cooking.

The last holiday season we got invited to a few parties and everyone were asked to bring some dishes. I live it Central America and rice is one of the staples of the diet. I came to the conclusion that I was going to cook rice as they have never had it before. I also made a pasta salad with black olives and shrimp. My wife made macaroni and cheese fresh out of the box. Good old Kraft Mac and Cheese a staple at my house.

The party was a nice event. There was lots of food and plenty different kinds of rice. The gringo rice took it by storm. It disappeared quickly as did the macaroni salad. Laughing, but the Kraft macaroni and cheese was also a hit. That made my wife real happy since I wouldn’t be able to say I told you so…

It felt great to get so many raves reviews. My wife basked in the lime life as I just shook my head. It was great to see her so happy but I was getting that feeling she was going to cook Mac and Cheese everyday.

Earlier this year (2009) my wife turned the big 30 and noticed she had put on a few pounds since our wedding day. This was a great thing since she became interested in eating healthy.  We now use a cookbook with healthy recipes for her to prepare the meals during the week. This has really made me happy and she has noticed a difference.

I truly love my wife and she does many things better than I do. She grows flowers in her garden and I don’t have a clue except to pull the grass away from the plants. She has a nice taste for clothes and I am clueless on what matches and what doesn’t match. She loves bicycles and horses. She loves our rabbit to damn much since I know a good rabbit recipe…
