Healthy and likable lunch recipes and ideas for kids.
Depending on where you live in the world, and with all the food recalls lately making lunch for your kids can be a difficult adventure. Where we live so much lunch meat has been called back that we are afraid to buy any , and since I can’t give peanut butter for sandwiches I was forced to come up with some alternative meals. So here are some of my ideas for kids lunches, most are simple and liked by most kids, well at least by my kids who are probably just as if not more picky then any other.
Cream Cheese
Cream cheese on bagels, or bread, plain or mixed with your kids favourite jam.
Cream cheese tortilla wraps, you can sneak some lettuce in with some thinly sliced veggies and/ or with some left over cooked chicken.
Cream cheese on crackers served with some cucumber slices or tomato
My kids love slices of fruit breads, banana and strawberry go over well, served with a little spread of cream cheese of course.
Salads
Mix up a some fruit salad, give some vanilla yogurt to dip or fruit dip to mix in…(give any sauces in separate containers). Try some veggies with dip too….
As before make a salad and wrap it up in a tortilla or stuff some into a pita pocket with some dressing, mayonnaise or cream cheese.
Mr. Noodle salad, add some crushed noodles to any salad, kids love it.
Left over’s make great lunches for kids and adults, make a little extra of your kids favourite meals, and serve some during the week.
Cook mini pizza’s for lunch.
When the warm weather begins to disappear get a thermos and give pasta, soups, chillies and stews.
Jam sandwiches are a favourite at our house….try different flavours.
How about some boiled eggs, separate or cut into slices for a salad or tortilla wrap, also you can make egg salad sandwiches, or even tuna salad sandwiches
If your child’s school has a milk program, give them a bowl of dry cereal in a sealed container with a spoon, and they can pour in some milk during the lunch hour.
Well those are just a couple of ideas, nothing fancy just simple healthy choices. Remember to limit your kids on sweets and if you are making meals with cream cheese or mayonnaise limit the amounts to healthy servings. Lunch doesn’t have to be complicated it just has to be healthy, filling and likable. Of course that doesn’t mean kids can’t have a few treats….
