Almond Awards Bar Cookies
Here is a super recipe that your family will always be bothering you to make these.
This recipe comes from 1001 cookie recipes Gregg R Gillespie
CRUST
1 cup all purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup vegetable shortening
1/2 cup granulated sugar
2 Tablespoon grated lemon zest
TOPPING
1/2 cup vegetable shortening
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1 cup heavy cream
1 cup almonds ground
Preheat oven to 375F degrees. Lightly grease an 11×7 inch baking pan
To make the crust combine flour and salt
In a large bowl cream the shortening and sugar. beat in the lemon zest
Carefully blend in the dry ingredients..
Press the dough evenly over the bottom of the prepared baking pan. Bake for 12 minutes. Transfer pan to wire rack to cool slighly.
Meanwhile make the topping. Melt the shortening in a small saucepan. Stir in the sugar cream and almonds.
Spread the almond topping over te warm crust. Bake for 20 minutes longer or until firm to the touch
Cool in pan on wire rack then cut into bars
