3D Printer Prints Your Meals

Very soon, you will be able to print the desired dish with various foods and in various forms.

Cornell Lab Creative Machines is developing a 3D printer literally capable of printing meals.

The machine was born from the idea that you “should not play with your food” being able to do dishes with different ingredients and in different formats (including objects such as airplanes, necklaces etc.).

Instead of being applied in the design industry and manufacturing, this printer will be useful in the field of cooking. The purpose is to improve creative chefs in the food item, proving that a good diet can consist of fine dishes.

This innovative printer has already been tested to create noodles shaped like spaceships, as well as cakes and cookies that may contain an internal message, as you can see in the image below.

This printer was also able to create a beef burger with borders filled with ketchup or mustard, plus the equivalent made for vegetarians.

She works with multiple “cartridges” (making the desired format line by line) and a kind of “electronic schema” (technology called FabApps). The schema contains the exact specifications of what materials are needed to produce the desired food.

The paint itself is the food in paste form (such as processed cheese, melted chocolate, etc.).Truth is the idea of printing food can be a great ally in creating new flavors by varying the properties of foods. In addition, the combination of shapes and textures can make dishes that are not our preference become much more attractive every day.

To put this idea into practice, the Cornell group has already partnered with the Culinary Institute of France, to create new forms of existing foods. We can only wait to see what kind of new dishes can be “printed” on our table.
