Tide Pods; Are They Worth The Cost?
Tide Pods are a new convenience laundry item that some think well worth the money.
If you haven’t already seen them, Tide laundry detergent has developed a new product called “Pods,” that is a premeasured little plastic filled tablet (much like the dishwashing detergent packets), prefilled with detergent.
They are slightly more expensive, but depending upon your needs, they may be worth it. According to MommySavers.com, the cost breaks down like this:
Tide Pods
62 Packs = $15.99
Price per load: $.257
Tide Liquid
45 Loads = $10.99 (reg. price, not sale price)
Price per load: $.244
This is not a huge difference in cost, so the convenience may be worth it to you, especially if you have problems with adding too much detergent or perhaps someone else in your home tends to spill or make a mess with the liquid.
These are also great for travel and for college living.
However, if you are a more conservative user of detergent, then you may not want to switch to Tide Pods, since the amount of detergent used per load cannot be modified without breaking open the pod, which defeats its purpose.
So, to Pod or not to Pod? You know the facts and can now more easily decide.

I love the pods! I have been trying to get my teen daughters to do their own laundry, however, “portion control” had been a problem. Half a bottle of Tide in the washer – for a pair of jeans, doesn’t seem like good money management to me, so these offer a good remedy! I actually save money with the pods.
