Selling on Ebay is My Job, So for Those of You Who Think I’m Not Working Think Again

Selling on Ebay is a job and don’t let anyone tell you it isn’t.

Selling on Ebay is a Job.  I have been selling stuff on ebay since December and have been doing very well with it.

I quit my part time retail job last year as the hours were terrible and I wasn’t getting very much money.  You can’t live on five hours a week.  There’s just no way.  Luckily I had alimony.

Well, as I started selling on Ebay, I suddenly have been making more than I was at my part time job.  Of course I have lots of bills too.  And I also have boughten stuff on ebay too.  Things I did want.

Well, recently I have been having doctor’s bills that sucked a lot of my good ebay money.  And I bought some jewelry supplies in hopes of making some money back after making the jewelry.  I have already sold some things.  Some of my jewelry and knitting markers got sold.

Well over the last few months along with some car problems, my boyfriend has started dropping hints that I don’t have a job.  And that it’s terrible that I don’t have a job.

Well, I will tell you that it has really ticked me off that he can say that.

Ebay is my job.  I have sold a lot of stuff and made more money than I have at my part time job.  Even after Ebay takes their cut and Paypal takes a little, I have still done very well.  A lot better than I ever would at a yardsale.

So it really ticks me off that he can say I don’t have a job.

Ebay is a job.  It may not be a full time job for people, but it does pay bills.  And believe me, I have my share of bills that has taken a good amount of my good Ebay money.  And I have spent some too.  I’m a woman.  Women like to shop.

And it takes time to sell on Ebay.  You have to take the time to gather your stuff to list, take pictures of them, then take the time to list them.  Then you are kind of watching for a little bit.  Taking time to answer people’s questions about your items.  Then when it is done, you are busy sending out invoices, waiting for payments and then the most time consuming part is packaging everything and then shipping it out.  It’s a job, plain and simple.

It’s just not a job that I go out to work at.  And the plus side to my job is that I can do it and be with my kids at the same time.  And if I went out to a job, I might not be able to spend as much time with my boyfriend.  So I have a job with benefits.

So it just ticks me off really bad when he thinks it’s terrible that I don’t have a job.  I don’t like that.

  1. Selling products from home is a job. People will have their opinions about what is a real job and what is not. I understand why you quick that retail job, 5 hours a week is just not worth it. Thanks for sharing this.

  2. hey dearie, if you are earning and are happy with it! Then it’s a job alright and if anyone thinks otherwise then just ask them to….

  3. that’s right. he’s my boyfriend so it’s hard to have him say that to me. he’s seeing that suddenly a lot of the money I earned on ebay is gone. Which I told him it went to pay doctors bills and other bills and i spent a little bit, but I did earn it. Drives me nuts. He once suggested getting a part time job a few months ago. I told him that I’m making more at ebay than there. He also discourages me from going back to write my novels. Says, “That’s not going to make you any money.” I don’t like that. I do it because I love it.

  4. I like your job. For making an income for your family is a good thing.
I still remember this statement-”Do what you Love and you will Become Rich”. God Bless your Love for Ebay.
