Reason and Passion &Ndash; A Blog (My Perspective)
Reason and passion – poles apart, but an optimum mix of the two is just great.
Ideally we should make all our decisions using a mix of both reason and passion: choosing a washing machine; choosing a life partner; giving in to a child’s demands; and so on. Reason can be likened to being rational (the mind) and passion can be likened to being emotional (the heart). Men are usually associated with rationality and women with emotion, but I am sure there are exceptions.
When choosing a washing machine, for instance, a woman might tend to choose one based on the colour and sleekness perhaps, whereas a man might choose one based solely on functions such as electricity consumption, efficiency, options available, and so on. When choosing a life partner however, the explanation is not as simple and straightforward as in the case of a washing machine! Some men make this choice with reason, but for several passion plays a dominant role. And some women make this choice with passion, but for several reason plays a dominant role. Phew!
I guess we should just try to temper passion with reason. At least try…
