Price-comparison Sites

Foundem, free : http://bit.ly/foundemgold.

Foundem gets most of the fundamentals of a price-comparison search spot on: the search bar sits up top with clickable product categories below. Perform a search and the site automatically orders the results with the cheapest at the top. That may not be the best or most appropriate deal but it demonstrates how Foundem is plugged into the psyche of shoppers who use price-comparison sites.

Drill down to view particular items and you’ll find the Best Price History chart that shows, for example, that the price of coffee machines tends to dip in summer. So, if you’re in the market for a fancy cappuccino-maker, it may be best to avoid buying one during the colder months.

The site looks sparse compared to some of the price-comparison sites we’ve reviewed but we consider this to be a laudable advantage. However, it occasionally presented incongruous results. Hunting for a hiking jacket, for example, we didn’t expect to be offered prices for men’s fragrances and kids’ toys. Still, Foundem covers an impressive range of products and finds the best deals on even the most obscure items with a minimum of fuss.
