Kia Rio 1.5crdi Domino : Fourth Update 14th August 2012

I have now had the Kia Rio, from new, for a around 14 months and, despite a problem with the starter motor (repaired quickly under the seven year warranty) overall I am still very happy with my purchase.

As mentioned in my first article, which can be found at:

I was looking for a car that was better than the old petrol Citroen C3 petrol, that, despite being (in my opinion) a very small car, with a small 1.4 litre engine, was only achieving 33.648mpg during my almost completely urban driving.

I’ve now driven over 5,000 urban miles at over 43mpg on average, which has been spent in a much more relaxed and comfortable way than my old Citroen.  My wife used my car for her work journeys, which is a lot of motorway driving and the car managed 56.78mpg for that week – brilliant economy for a small, five speed 1.5 diesel vehicle.

Since the last update, some eight months ago I have more than doubled the mileage, which still at only 5,000 is very low, and I keep taking it for longer runs every now and again to keep all the systems working fully.  I am expecting my mileage to increase over the next few years and am aiming to keep the car for at least the seven years of its warranty.

I have had need of the warranty in the last couple of months as it started to struggle to start on the first try, the key would turn, the glow light would go out and then when the key turned it just went dead.  After a couple of attempts it would start, but the starting was becoming harder and harder.  I had the car booked in within days of discovering the worsening problem and the garage identified the fault, ordered the part and had the car back to me within days.  Since the problem, which was fixed under the seven year warranty, the car has been perfect.

As the first year has gone by, the Kia had its first service, which again was dealt with perfectly on a Saturday morning, it was serviced, cleaned and available for collection within a couple of hours.  The servicing department were superb and all under the three year free service plan that I got with the car.  Thank you Kia.

Mine is the old shape Rio, hence I managed to get a brilliant deal on it, and the new shape looks fantastic too.

So, after 5,000 miles I still rate this car highly, particularly considering the price of the car, so far I would rate the car 8.0 out of 10.
